Courts must not forget the value of personal liberty, says Justice Deepak Gupta

Both the left and right wing welcome the violation of human rights, filing of FIRs, arrests, and harassment by the police when it's against people they don't like. The only institution that is supposed to stand up against this is the judiciary.

The same was echoed by the Chief Justice of India, who recently said the the Court is answerable to the Constitution and Constitution alone.

For citizens harassed by governments across the political spectrum, the process becomes punishment.
