Mismanagement has caused the disaster in Sri Lanka, Sanath Jayasuriya told Vikram Chandra. The icon chose to raise his voice in support of the protests because people were suffering, he said, and that change is direly needed. He also said that the Rajapaksa government kept denying the economic reality of Sri Lanka and lying to people, which is why they had to come out on the street.

Sanath Jayasuriya also thanked India for aid in the form of medicine, money and fuel. He said that Sri Lanka needs to come up with a short-term plan, after which the international community will be able to help the island country.
