Sri Lanka is going through its worst economic crisis in decades. As protestors have stormed the official residences of the country’s former President and Prime Minister, and treated themselves to their luxuries, the citizens are facing the brunt of the scarcities. The country has no fuel to run essential services, inflation is running at more than 50%, and a lack of medicines has brought the health system to the brink of collapse.

As a new political regime is set to take over in the island country, can they restore public trust in government and steer Lanka out of crisis? How can close neighbour India help? Vikram Chandra discusses with political and economic experts, and sports icon Sanath Jayasuriya, on this week’s episode of The India Story.

We also look into how China’s ‘debt-trap diplomacy’ trap may have contributed to Sri Lanka’s downfall, and which other countries should be on the lookout for this predatory lending policy.
