From 290 BCE to the 15th century CE, Indian culture influenced the kingdoms of Southeast Asia to a large degree, as Hindu-Buddhist influences were incorporated into local political systems. Kingdoms in the south of India had established trade, cultural and political relations with Southeast kingdoms, ostensibly through naval routes, extending their influence.
Modern day India also has an opportunity to ward off Chinese influence by looking Southeast. In a time of economic crisis, some of the bright spots are economies like India and Vietnam.
