After violence was reported from Leicester in the UK after an India-Pakistan cricket match, a series of incidents have erupted in the city. Communally-provocative chants, mob clashes, and physical brawls were reported for days after the game was over. Even as police was diverted from Queen Elizabeth’s funeral to provide security in the area, a variety of narratives have come forward to explain the discord.

Some people believe the flames were fanned by disinformation on social media, while others say that the disharmony is the work of outsiders out to incite hatred in Leicester, which has been known for its communal harmony. Some are concerned that if the government does not clamp down on this hatred, it could spread to other parts of the UK.
