Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday named party MP Bhagwant Mann as AAP's CM candidate for the upcoming Punjab Assembly Elections.
Announcing Mann's name, Kejriwal said that over 21 lakh people voted in AAP's public poll on CM candidate and 93% of them wanted Bhagwant Mann to be next CM of Punjab.
Two-time AAP MP from Punjab, Bhagwant Mann represents Sangrur Lok Sabha seat in Lok Sabha.
Mann started out as a stand-up comedian over 20 years ago before joining politics.
From a Sangrur village, Mann started his comedy career participating in youth festivals and inter-college competitions.
After gaining nationwide recognition in the Great Indian Laughter Challenge—a reality TV show, he dived into active politics with Manpreet Singh Badal’s erstwhile People’s Party of Punjab in 2011. He couldn’t win assembly seat from Lehragaga in 2012 but when he joined AAP in March 2014, there was no looking back.
Although Mann has had his fair share of controversies, his brilliant wit coupled with oratory skills makes him the quintessential crowd puller for AAP.
