Om Raut’s ‘Adipurush’, starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan, recorded a fantastic opening weekend collection, but during the week the mythological drama fell drastically. Its collections in India in all languages came down to as low as around ₹10 crore nett.
According to a report on Sacnilk.com, the film recorded just ₹10.80 crore in all languages in India on June 20 as per early estimates. After a ₹220-crore weekend at the domestic box office, the film nosedived to just ₹20 crore on June 19.
The free fall seems to be a result of the negative word of mouth against the film. ‘Adipurush’ has been criticised for its dialogues and poor VFX.
Dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir has said that the makers would ‘revise some of the dialogues’ after facing backlash and the changes will be incorporated in the movie in a week.
The film has been criticised by actors of the popular TV show ‘Ramayan’ - Arun Govil, Sunil Lahri, Dipika Chikhlia, and ‘Mahabharat's Mukesh Khanna.
All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding a ban on ‘Adipurush’. The trade organisation called the film a ‘complete disaster of our faith in Shri Ram and Ramayan’.
