Filmmaker Apurva Asrani came out in support of actor Priyanka Chopra after she revealed that she was cornered in Bollywood and was tired of politics. In an interview with Hindustan Times, he shared that a few families in the industry have an edge in the business as they have been around for generations and know the pulse of the audience.

He said filmmakers have their favourites and the problem arises when they gang up to oust an actor or technician from not just a movie but the entire ecosystem.

Asrani further shared how he witnessed the egos of many filmmakers being hurt when an actor refuses a film or exits due to creative differences. He added they use media and powerful journalists to run campaigns to discredit the person.

He pointed out how Kartik Aaryan survived the 'vicious campaigns' against him and recounted how a similar campaign was run against Priyanka in 2012.
