'Bheed', starring Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar, released in theatres on March 24. The long list of edits suggested by the Central Board of Film Certification for the film is being widely shared on the internet.
Now, actor Swara Bhasker has reacted to these edits. She tweeted, 'Nothing stings like facts. In India, we have a new affliction: Allergy to facts. #bheed #censorship.'
As per the list, a bunch of swear words and some nudity was removed from the film. One of the edits includes removal of 'all the (direct and indirect) speeches and references of the Hon'ble PM (voice-over).' In addittion, ‘Pradhanmantri was replaced with Mantri and voice-over of the Delhi CM replaced, wherever they occurred/appeared (also removed from sub-titles).’ There are several more edits that were made.
Directed by Anubhav Sinha, the film shows how migrant workers were stuck without basic needs after Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a nationwide lockdown in an effort to contain the COVID-19 pandemic and their struggles as they attempted to find their way home.
