Filmmaker Kiran Rao is returning to the big screen with 'Laapata Ladies' after a hiatus of 13 years. The comedy-drama is being produced by Rao's ex-husband and actor, Aamir Khan. While many may not entertain the idea of working with a former spouse, it's business as usual for Aamir and Kiran, who have always maintained that they are a family despite their separation.
In an interview with News18, Aamir shared some insights from the upcoming romantic film. Acknowledging that romance for him is a bit uncommon at this age, the 'PK' actor noted that if he feels that he is suitable for the main character, then he would love to take the part, adding that he wishes to explore all the genres.
Khan had a quirky response when he was asked about working together with his wife. He quipped, 'Has a doctor said that when a divorce happens, you immediately become enemies?'
He continued, “I feel that I got lucky because Kiran came into my life. Our journey was very fulfilling and we did a lot of things together–personally and professionally. We are connected on a human and emotional level, and we will always be. We are like a family..”
Further praising Kiran, he said, “I think Kiran is a wonderful mind and she is intelligent. And she even shouts at me sometimes, I enjoy that too. We are very excited about the work we do together.” Kiran also agreed with Aamir and added, “We enjoy working with each other.” 'Sometimes, she shouts at me,' the actor joked.
'Laapata Ladies' is set against the backdrop of rula India. The film follows the backstory of two young brides who get exchanged on a train. Starring Nitanshi Goel, Chhaya Kadam, and Aamir Khan, the film is scheduled to release on March 1.
