Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ fell prey to the boycott trend on social media ahead of its release and many celebrities came in support of the film and the actors. Now, Anupam Kher, in an exclusive interview with India Today, reacted to the cancel culture and said that if someone feels that they should start a trend, they are free to do so.
Taking a dig at Aamir for his 2015 statement on ‘growing intolerance’ in the country, ‘The Kashmir Files’ actor said that if someone has said something in the past, it will surely haunt them.
He talked about the cancel culture in a conversation with Times Now as well and said it's nonsense to say that films don’t work because of boycott trends. He said that two-three years ago, makers would want their film to create some kind of controversy so that people watch it.
He added that Aamir’s ‘Dangal’ released after the statements he made in 2015 and went on to become the biggest hit of all time in the country. He said that if a film is good and the audience likes it, there’s no way that it won’t do well.
‘Did it affect his popularity or success? Everybody has freedom to express. If some people feel that they don’t want to watch a certain film then it’s their right. If a film is good and the audience likes it, there’s no way that it won’t do well,' he told Times Now.
Anupam was among the many individuals who slammed Aamir for his comments in 2015. In one of his tweets, he wrote, ‘Did you ask Kiran (Rao) which country would she like to move out to? Did you tell her that this country has made you AAMIR KHAN.’
