Anushka Sharma made a rare public appearance in Mumbai on September 4, attending a brand event where she discussed the challenges of parenting with her cricketer-husband, Virat Kohli.
At the event, the actor openly talked about the pressure to be ‘perfect’ as parents and shared honest insights into her approach to raising their children, Vamika and Akaay.
“There is so much pressure to be this perfect parent,” Anushka admitted.
“But we’re not perfect, and that’s okay. We’ll complain about things, and it’s fine to admit it in front of our kids, so they know we’re flawed,” she added.
Anushka emphasised that admitting mistakes helps ease the pressure children feel, saying, “Imagine kids thinking, ‘My parents are like this,’ and having to live up to those expectations.”
Anushka Sharma also shared how her social life has changed since becoming a parent.
“I can only hang out with people who are in the same phase, and that’s very few,” she joked.
“When people invite us to dinner, I think, you’re probably eating a snack by the time we have dinner,” she laughed, acknowledging the lifestyle adjustments that come with raising children.
The actor discussed the values she and Virat aim to impart to their children through their actions rather than direct instruction.
“My daughter is still very young, so I don’t think I can teach her much directly. It’s about how we live our lives. Are we showing gratitude in our daily interactions? That’s what children learn from,” Anushka said.
She believes children absorb and emulate their surroundings, and for them to learn gratitude, they need to see it modelled.
Anushka emphasized the importance of allowing children to be themselves while gently guiding them when needed.
“If they’re being disrespectful, they’re just being kids. You can gently steer them in the right direction,” she explained.
“Living by example is the best way to ensure they absorb the positive aspects of their environment,” she added.
