James Cameron’s ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ had an amazing opening weekend at box office. The sequel to the 2009 smash hit has already earned over Rs 3,500 crore worldwide, according to studio estimates on Sunday.
The film is doing quite well in India where it earned Rs 129 crore within three days of release, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The third day of the weekend was expected to see a lower turnout due the FIFA World Cup final, but the film managed to sail through.
‘Avatar 2’ is the first film to register such an astonishing opening day number in the post-pandemic times, surpassing the rest of the Bollywood films that released this year. It is the second highest-grossing Hollywood film in India after ‘Avengers: The Endgame’.
The sci-fi drama stars Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana among others. It shows how Jake Sully and Ney'tiri have formed a family and are doing everything to stay together. However, an ancient threat resurfaces, and Jake must fight a difficult war against the humans.
