The trailer of ‘Brahmastra,’ starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, drew a lot of flak recently after a section of social media users pointed out that Ranbir Kapoor was wearing shoes inside a temple premise. Days after #BoycottBrahmastra trended on Twitter, director Ayan Mukerji took to Instagram and issued a statement clarifying the scene from his forthcoming film.
In his note, Ayan mentions that in the particular scene Ranbir Kapoor is entering a Durga Puja pandal and not a temple. He further added that his family has been organizing similar kind of Durga Puja celebrations for the last 75 years and in his experience, it’s necessary to take off the shoes right on the stage where the Goddess is, and not when you enter the pandal.
Ayan Mukerji said that it is important for him to reach out to anyone who has been upset with this scene because ‘Brahmastra’ has been created as a movie experience that pays respects to and celebrates – Indian culture, traditions, and history.
This is Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s first film together. ‘Brahmastra’ also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and Mouni Roy in pivotal roles. It will release in theatres on September 9, in 2D and 3D.
