French Riviera will host the annual Cannes Film Festival, attracting the biggest names in international cinema, from May 14 to May 25. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, a frequent attendee, is set to return, alongside actor Aditi Rao Hydari.
The festival holds a special place for Aishwarya, who was a jury member in 2003. Aditi, who debuted at Cannes in 2022, expressed her excitement, calling it an ‘honour’ to return.
Aditi said she is ‘thrilled to embark on this journey’.
The 77th edition of Cannes Film Festival will gather the industry's luminaries in southern France next week to celebrate cinema. Hollywood stars such as George Lucas, Meryl Streep, and Demi Moore are expected to grace the red carpet at the glitzy event on the French Riviera. The event features premieres, star-studded press conferences, and glamorous parties.
Cannes, the world's largest film festival, was conceived in 1939 as an alternative to the then-fascist-influenced Venice Film Festival. Since 1946, it has been held annually, except for 1948 and 1950, when it was cancelled due to insufficient funds. The festival is renowned for its meticulously curated selection of films, many of which have achieved Oscar success or catapulted directors like Quentin Tarantino to fame.
Aditi recently starred in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web series 'Heeramandi' where she portays the role of a courtesan named Bibbojaan. She is also a revolutionary who is fighting for the freedom of the country. The show is set in 1920s Lahore.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made her first appearance at Cannes in 2002 for the film 'Devdas' along with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Shah Rukh Khan. The actor was also seen walking the red carpet in 2023 in a dramatic hooded gown.
She was last seen in the film ‘Ponniyin Selvan: II’.
