Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has been cast in the role of late Punjabi folk singer Amar Singh Chamkila in an upcoming biopic which will be directed by Imtiaz Ali.
Known for portraying complex relationships in films like 'Tamasha', 'Rockstar' and others, Imtiaz will be directing a biopic about the life of late folk singer Amar Singh Chamkila, who became popular in Punjab with the stage name Chamkila.
Previously, it was speculated that actors Ranbir Kapoor, Ayushmann Khurrana, and Kartik Aaryan might play the lead character. According to a tabloid, the producers wanted an actor who could sing and act. And when the Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh was approached for the role, he jumped on board right away. He cited Chamkila as an inspiration to the music industry. Reports state that, Diljit will also be singing several of Chamkila's original songs for the film.
In collaboration with Reliance Entertainment, the film will be produced under Imitiaz's production banner Window Seat Films.
The film is touted to be a blend of facts and fiction narrating Chamkila's love life, controversies, music, and assassination.
One maybe aware that, while Diljit Dosanjh was last seen in the Punjabi film 'Honsla Rakh' alongside Shehnaaz Gill and also in the Bollywood film 'Good Newwz' with Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kiara Advani.
