Republic Day 2023: Five movies to binge-watch and celebrate the day

Indian Cinema has always celebrated the legacy of our freedom fighters, and numerous filmmakers have attempted to show the freedom struggle through their movies.
On India's 74th  Republic Day, here is a list of five patriotic films you can watch. 

Bhuj-The pride of India (2021)
Set during the Indo-Pakistan War in 1971, the film narrates the story of Indian Air Force Squadron leader Vijay Karnik, played by Ajay Devgn, who was then in charge of the Bhuj Air Force Base. With the help of 300 women, he rebuilt the damaged landing strip in 72 hours. 

Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi (2019)
The Krish Jagarlamudi and Kangana Ranaut directorial is based on the life of India’s freedom fighter Rani Lakshmi Bai, also known as Manikarnika. Kangana Ranaut played the titular role in the film, which chronicled the journey of Rani Laxmibai from childhood to becoming the Queen of Jhansi. It also highlighted how she led a war against the East India Company and its unethical practices. 

Kesari (2019)
Starring Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra, ‘Kesari’ is based on the battle of Saragarhi in 1897. Akshay Kumar played the role of Havildar Ishar Singh, a soldier in the British Army, who led 21 Sikh soldiers in a fight against an Afghan army of 10, 000 men. 

Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran (2018)
John Abraham featured as army officer Ashwat Rana, who was in charge of an operation to develop and test nuclear weapons without letting the American Intelligence agencies know. The film is based on the true story of India's 1998 Pokhran nuclear test. It shows how our country gained worldwide recognition as a full-fledged nuclear state. 

Raazi (2018)
Meghna Gulzar’s ‘Raazi’, starring Alia Bhatt, is a spy thriller based on Harinder Sikka’s 2008 novel ‘Calling Sehmat’. The film revolves around an Indian Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) agent who married a Pakistani military official to get a valuable piece of information for the country.
