Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s latest offering ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ released in theatres on Friday and has made a splash at the box office on its opening day.
The Alia Bhatt-starrer earned ₹10.50 crore on Friday, as per trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
In order to witness the response to the film, Alia even visited Mumbai's popular theatre Gaiety Galaxy cinema in Khar late Friday.
Dressed in a white saree, Alia was seen being mobbed by fans as she greeted them from her car with her Gangubai-style ‘namaste’.
‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is a biographical crime drama based on Hussain Zaidi’s book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai.
Besides Alia Bhatt, the film stars Ajay Devgn, Shantanu Maheshwari and Seema Pahwa in pivotal roles.
The film's story is about a woman Ganga who travels from Gujarat to Mumbai with her partner, but is betrayed and sold off, ending up in a life of prostitution.
