Jackie Shroff has impressed the audience with his acting skills and jovial personality for many years. He has appeared in over 220 films in 13 languages and his outstanding performances have fetched him numerous awards.

Did you know the actor’s real name is Jaikishen Kakubhai Shroff? His screen name Jackie was given to him by filmmaker Subhash Ghai when he launched him in his film ‘Hero’ (1983). The film made him an overnight star, and eventually established himself as one of the leading men of Indian cinema from 1980s to 1990s.

Subhash Ghai and Jackie Shroff were considered as a hit machine as the duo delivered several hits together after ‘Hero’.

The actor tried his hand at various career options before becoming an actor. Jackie worked as a chef, a flight attendant and a travel agent before making his acting debut.

He was spotted by an advertising agency accountant who asked him if he would be interested in modelling and Jackie accepted the offer.

After a brief stint as a model, he made his acting debut with ‘Swami Dada’ in 1982.

Besides movies, Jackie has also hosted many television shows like ‘Lehrein’, ‘Chirtrahar’ and ‘Missing’. In 2019, Jackie Shroff made his digital debut with the series ‘Criminal Justice’.

The veteran actor has also been actively involved in supporting various environmental and social causes.

Did you know Jackie Shroff owns an organic farm, where he grows organic plants, herbs and trees? He is also the brand ambassador of Thalassemia India and over the years has supported many causes including HIV/AIDS awareness and abolishment of female foeticide.

In addition to this, the actor gives voice to the plight of animals, and has also funded the treatment and education of many underprivileged children.
