Happy Birthday Manisha Koirala: Let’s revisit the actor's journey of victory and struggle

Manisha Koirala, one of the finest actors in Bollywood, is celebrating her 52nd birthday today. The actor, who hails from Nepal, made her acting debut with the Nepali film ‘Pheri Bhetaula’. She later debuted in Bollywood with ‘Saudagar’. Over the years, she has entertained the audience with her phenomenal performances. She enjoyed massive success during the 1990s and early 2000s. She has received many awards including four Filmfare Awards.

Manisha Koirala was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2012 and she recovered from the disease a few years back. In 2018, she launched her autobiography, ‘Healed: How Cancer Gave Me A New Life’, in which she opened up about her ordeal with cancer and emerging as a survivor.

Today, let's revisit her journey from ruling the film industry to being a cancer survivor.

A glorious Bollywood Journey

Manisha did a few modeling assignments before pursuing a career in acting. She made her Bollywood debut with Subhash Ghai’s ‘Saudagar’ in 1991, which was a commercial hit. Over the next few years, she was struggling to deliver good films. Manisha gained recognition with the 1994 film ‘1942: A Love Story’, which also won her first nomination for Best Actress at Filmfare Awards.

Apart from Hindi Cinema, she has also in Tamil, Telugu, English, and Nepali films. Some of her super hits include ‘Akele Hum Akele Tum’, ‘Khamoshi: The Musical’ and ‘Dil Se’.

Battle with Cancer

Life turned difficult in 2012 when the actor was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.  Manisha Koirala came out as a survivor after her long and tiring fight against the disease. In her book, ‘Healed: How Cancer Gave Me a New Life’, she opened up about how her struggle with cancer had been.

‘cancer had spread like a bowl of Rice Krispies all over the organs’ she says in her autobiographical book.

Her comeback to the industry

After her recovery from cancer, the actor returned to the big screen with the film ‘Dear Maya’. She later went on to star in Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Sanju’, co-starring Ranbir Kapoor. She was also seen in Netflix's 'Lust Stories'.

Manisha Koirala will next feature in Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon starrer ‘Shehzada’.
