Filmmaker Sooraj R Barjatya is known for his family dramas. He has helmed some of Bollywood’s most iconic films that revolve around family values, friendship and old-school romance. Let us take a look at some of the notable works of Sooraj Barjatya.

‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ (2015)

Cast: Salman Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Neil Nitin Mukesh

This was one of the highest-grossing films of 2015 and it marked Barjatya and Salman’s fourth collaboration. It narrated the story of Prem, a lookalike of Prince Yuvraj Vijay Singh, who replaces him just before his half-brother is set to be crowned as the king. Princess Maithili, who is engaged to Vijay, falls in love with Prem.

Vivah (2006)

Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Amrita Rao

Poonam, an orphan, is engaged to Prem, a kind-hearted man belonging to a wealthy family. However, two days before their wedding, she suffers severe burns after her house catches fire.

Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999)

Cast: Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre, Mohnish Bahl, Mahesh Thakur

The movie narrated the story of a joint family. Ramkishan and Mamta have three sons Vivek, Prem and Vinod and a daughter Sangeeta. When their daughter faces a tragedy, Mamta gets instigated by her close friends, and their family’s close-knit bond is challenged by a misunderstanding.

Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994)

Cast: Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan

Prem falls in love with his brother Rajesh's sister-in-law, Nisha. However, when Rajesh's wife dies, his family urges him to marry Nisha for the sake of their child. Prem and Nisha decide to sacrifice their love.

Maine Pyar Kiya (1989)

Cast: Salman Khan, Bhagyashree, Aloknath, Reema Lagoo

Suman's father leaves her in the care of his best friend’s family as he has to travel abroad for work. She meets Prem and the two fall in love. Prem's father is against the relationship and humiliates her. This makes her father angry and he breaks all ties with his friend. Prem then has to prove his worth to Suman's father.
