Tabassum Hashmi aka Tabu has turned a year older today. She has been an inevitable part of the film industry for a long time now. She is praised for her beauty, intelligence, and power-packed performances for which she has won several accolades.
On Tabu’s birthday, we look back at some of the most unconventional roles played by her over the years.
‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ (2022)
Tabu portrayed a double role of Anjulika and Manjulika in the horror-comedy for the first time in her career. The Anees Bazmee-directorial also starred Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani in the lead roles. It showed how two strangers Reet and Ruhan cross paths, and their journey leads to an abandoned mansion that is haunted by a dreaded spirit who has been trapped for 18 years.
'Andhadhun' (2018)
Tabu, co-starred with Ayushmann Khurrana and Radhika Apte in this black comedy crime thriller. She played a dark character in the Sriram Raghavan directorial and left everyone impressed.
Tabu stars as Simi Sinha who kills her husband with the help of her lover, and tries to befriend a blind guy for her own profit.
'Haider' (2014)
This crime drama starred Shahid Kapoor, Tabu, Shraddha Kapoor and Kay Kay Menon. It narrates the story of Haider, a young man, who returns to Jammu and Kashmir after completing his education. He tries to get closure following his father’s sudden disappearance after a military raid at his home, and is disturbed seeing his mother's closeness with his uncle, Khurram.
Tabu played the role of Ghazala Meer, Haider’s mother in the film.
'Chandni Bar' (2003)
This is one of Tabu’s finest performances. She played Mumtaz, a simple rural girl, who is forced to work in a bar after a tragedy strikes her family. The critically acclaimed drama, directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, also starred Atul Kulkarni, and Rajpal Yadav
'Maachis' (1995)
The political thriller, directed by Gulzar, starred Chandrachur Singh, Om Puri, Tabu, and Jimmy Sheirgill.
The film shows how a man is arrested and tortured for a crime he did not commit. On seeing his friend's condition, Kripal, played by Chandrachur Singh, joins an extremist group and is aims to bring down the government.
Tabu won her first Best Actress National Award for her portrayal of Virendar Kaur aka Veeran.
