Bappi Lahiri, who passed away at the age of 69 was fond of gold. The singer was often spotted wearing gold chains, rings and bracelets. Not many of us are aware of the reasons behind his fondness for his jewellery. Lahiri's fans often referred to him as the 'Golden man'. Let us know why Gold was so precious for Bappi Lahiri.
In an old interview, Bappi Lahiri revealed that gold was lucky for him and even credited his success to his jewellery. He possesses 754 gms of gold and 4.62 kg of silver, according to his election affidavit from 2014.
He also shared that his mother gifted him a gold chain with 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' locket, after which he got his first blockbuster - 'Zakhmi'. Later, the disco king's wife gifted him another gold chain, which again brought him luck. It followed with the super successful box-office runs of 'Aap Ki Khatir' and 'Bambai Se Aaya Mera Dost'.

Besides Gold, Bappi Lahiri was fond of wearing ornate jackets and coats. His style was unique in itself. His velvet jackets and sequinned robes mark his signature style. He collaborated for a fashion film for 'Itrh', a fashion label started by Mohit Rai and Ridhi Bansal. Unfortunately, the film released just a day before his tragic death.
Lahiri once claimed that "everyone in Hollywood knew him", and he had offers to sing with Whitney Houston and Jackson Five. He also revealed that his signature style and singing is inspired by Elvis Presley. His fascination for gold even dazzled Michael Jackson.
However, Bappi Lahiri gave up gold and embraced new age metal 'Luminex Uno', which is an amalgamation of gold, platinum and silver.
