‘Haseen Dillruba’, starring Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey, was released in 2021. Now, nearly six years later, a sequel titled ‘Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba,‘ is set to be released, featuring Sunny Kaushal as a new addition.
In a recent interview, Taapsee discussed the possibility of a third installment. Speaking with News 18 Showsha, Taapsee Pannu humorously noted that she doesn't read as much as her co-stars Vikrant Massey and Sunny Kaushal. However, she mentioned that she has given Kanika Dhillon the book Malice for potential use in a third installment of the film.
‘Hopefully, Haseen Dillruba will keep coming back and never leave,’ she said. ‘You’ll see more collaborations between me and Kanika in the future. We’re exploring many new ideas together,’ she added.
‘Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba’ will be Taapsee Pannu and Kanika Dhillon’s fifth collaboration, following Manmarziyaan, Haseen Dillruba, Rashmi Rocket, and Dunki.
Taapsee also praised Kanika Dhillon’s talent, highlighting her ability to create complex, 'gray' female characters. She shared that Dhillon's work has made a significant impact on her, especially noting how the Haseen Dillruba franchise has become very special to her.
Taapsee shared, ‘I realised that Kanika can make me do anything. The next thing she made me do was Haseen Dillruba, which became a franchise very close to my heart. She writes my kind of relatable women so well. These are the women who’ll make mistakes but will own up to them and will be honest about the fact that they did something wrong.’
Taapsee added, ‘Their mistakes are never hidden under the garb of heroism. These characters will never say, ‘Arrey, main toh aisi hi hoon’. There’s something very beautiful about Kanika’s protagonists being grey and vulnerable. She has a very unique style of writing. We understand each other very well as a writer-actor duo.’
