Following the release of the trailer for Nag Ashwin's highly anticipated film ‘Kalki 2898 AD,’ featuring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Amitabh Bachchan in leading roles, Hollywood Concept Artist accused the makers of illegally copying his work.
Sung Choi, known for his collaborations with major studios like Marvel, Disney, and Warner Bros., posted evidence supporting his claim on social media. He highlighted similarities between a frame from his artwork created a decade ago and a scene from Nag Ashwin's film, captioning what he termed as ‘bad practice’ by the filmmakers.
He expressed his disappointment, stating, 'Unauthorized use of the artwork is a bad practice. This makes me question doing art in this lawless environment,’ He also tagged the creators of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ in his post.
Choi's post quickly gained traction, with social media users supporting him and slamming the creators of ‘Kalki 2898 AD.’ One user expressed, ‘What a shame!!’ Another user added, ‘This is so horrible. The very first frame of the trailer is plagiarised.’ ‘This is disappointing. Not okay.’ wrote another.
Sung Choi is a concept artist, with a portfolio that includes collaborations with Marvel Studios, Disney, Warner Bros, Bungie, Wizards of the Coast, and Netflix Animation. Originally from South Korea, Choi relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a degree in Digital Media at Otis College of Art and Design.
