‘Laapataa Ladies’ to be screened at the Supreme Court; Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao to attend

Kiran Rao’s directorial, ‘Laapataa Ladies’, will be screened at the Supreme Court of India on August 9. Kiran and producer Aamir Khan will attend the screening and interact with the audience.

The Chief Justice of India and the judges along with their spouses will also be present.

The screening will take place from following court hours and will be followed by an interactive session with Khan and Rao.

The notice read, ‘As part of the activities organised during the seventy-fifth year of the establishment of the Supreme Court of India, the movie 'Laapataa Ladies' which is based on the theme of gender equality, will be screened on Friday, 9 August 2024 in the Auditorium, C- Block, Administrative Building Complex. Ms. Kiran Rao, who has directed the movie, and Mr. Aamir Khan, Producer, will also be present during the screening.’

Directed by Kiran Rao, ‘Laapataa Ladies’ premiered in theatres on March 1, 2024.

Adapted from Biplab Goswami’s award-winning novel, the film features Sparsh Shrivastava, Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel, and Ravi Kishan in leading roles. Set in rural India in 2001, the story follows two brides who are swapped during a train journey, leading their husbands on a quest to find the true bride.

Produced by Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions, ‘Laapataa Ladies’ marks Kiran Rao’s return to directing after Dhobi Ghat. The film was well-received at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023, earning a standing ovation. It has since been praised by Hansal Mehta, Mira Kapoor, and recently, Vijay Varma, who called it ‘exceptional.’
