Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar, also known as ‘Nightingale of India’, entered the film industry in 1942. Her contributions to the area of music are enormous, and her voice has had a significant impact on the musical culture of the country.

Lata Mangeshkar sang the superhit 'Ajeeb dastan hai ye' among other songs for Meena Kumari. This hit song was from the 1960 film ‘Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai’ starring Meena Kumari and Raj Kumar. The film is about a hardworking surgeon who gets forced into marrying one of the daughters of a family friend. However, his heart belongs to a nurse who relentlessly works by his side daily.
Lata Mangeshkar also sang for yesteryear actress Madhubala for several movies. One of the most iconic songs of hers was Pyaar Kia Toh Darna Kya from the iconic film Mughal-E-Azam. According to reports, Madhubala had stipulated in her contracts that she wanted only Lata ji to do her playback singing.
This famous dance number sung by our very own Lata ji, belongs to the 1978 hit Muqaddar Ka Sikandar-, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha. The film was the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 1978. The Soundtrack was composed by the duo of the brothers Kalyanji Anandji, with the lyrics by Anjaan and Prakash Mehra.
Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is penned by Anand Bakshi, it's composed by Jatin and Lalit and sung by Lata Mangeshkar. 'Mere Khwabon Mein' was the very first track that was recorded for 'DDLJ'. The song became remarkable not only because of Kajol's stellar performance as Simran by Lata Ji’s melodious vocals.
Lata Mangeshkar gave her vocals for Hum Aapke Hai Kaun’s hit track, ‘Maye Ni Maye’ which has Madhuri Dixit dancing gracefulluy to it. The film features actor Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit and this song's music is given by Ram Lakshman and lyrics penned by Dev Kohli.
