Filmmaker Luv Ranjan opened up about the much-talked-about topic of nepotism in Bollywood at the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. He was speaking during a session on the changing phase of the entertainment industry and how to break into it.

Luv Ranjan said that nepotism is an inheritance of relationships. However, in the industry, it becomes a sour topic. He added that even if your parents are from the industry, eventually work speaks for itself and nepotism may only help in getting the first or second project.

‘I feel nepotism is an inheritance of relationships. But in the industry, it becomes a sour topic. Even if your parents are from the industry, all it gets you is your first film, or maybe your second film. But after that, it’s your work that speaks for you,’ he said.

Luv Rajan also stated that many newcomers suffer from ‘victim syndrome’ and are stuck with the notion that they are good.

‘A lot of newcomers have the victim syndrome. We get stuck up in the notion that I’m good. But it doesn’t mean that others are bad. People don’t realize that filmmaking cannot be detached from business,’ he added.

Luv Ranjan made his directorial debut in 2011 with ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’, starring debutants Kartik Aaryan and Divyendu Sharmaa. Divyendu is now a popular star on digital platforms, while Kartik has created a mark for himself in Bollywood and he delivered one of the top-grossing films of 2022 with ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’.

Luv Ranjan's last directorial venture was the 2018 film ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’. His next project is a Ranbir Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor-starrer romantic comedy that will hit the theatres on March 8 next year.
