Congress MLA Amin Patel has filed a plea in Bombay High Court asking to change the name of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming film 'Gangubai Kathiawadi'.
The MLA has alleged that the title maligns the name of Kathiawad city and added that it misrepresents Kamathipura as a red-light area while showing the Kathiawadi community in poor light.
The plea has sought a stay on Gangubai Kathiwadi’s release as well as direction to the Censor Board for removal of all references of ‘Kamathipura’ in the film.
Starring Alia Bhatt as Gangubai, the film will hit the theatres on February 25.
Meanwhile, the film has bagged the UA certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), deeming it fit to be viewed by all age groups. The final certification came after four major changes were made in the original edit.
The film is based on Hussain Zaidi's book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai. The narrates the story of the madam of a brothel who rose to power and also features Ajay Devgn in a pivotal role.
