Oscars 2023: Guneet Monga was 'extremely disheartened' that her speech was cut off

Guneet Monga is currently on cloud nine as her film 'The Elephant Whisperers' won the Best Documentary Short Film award at the Oscars 2023. In a recent interview she revealed that she extremely disheartened' that her speech was cut off.

Speaking with Bombay Times, she said that her heart started racing as she couldn't have come so far and not be heard. 'There was a shock on my face. I just wanted to say it's India's first Oscar in Indian production, which is such a huge thing,' she said.

She further said that many people got offended when she didn't get a chance to deliver her speech. There were many videos and tweets on the social media expressing disappointment that she couldn’t get to speak. This was India's moment taken away from her. But then, she thought it's okay, she'll go back there and she'll make sure that she's heard. 

Monga received a rousing welcome as she returned to India after the historic win on Friday
