Actor Pankaj Tripathi was named as the 'National Icon' of the Election Commission of India on Monday (Oct. 3). At an event, the Election Commission of India honoured the 'Mirzapur' actor citing his 'association with the Election Commission in creating awareness amongst voters.'
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar made this announcement and appreciated the actor too. He said, 'Tripathi would henceforth be the National Icon for Election Commission keeping in view his commitment to the cause and wide appeal across the country.'
The actor thanked the Election Commission of India for the honour and said, 'I am thankful to the ECI for picking me up as the National Icon. I am humbled to be the first icon from the state of Bihar. Honorable Election Commissioner Rajiv Sir (Rajiv Kumar) asked me about it. Formalities are yet to be completed through the exchange of emails. I will try my best to do this responsibility with full commitment.'
On the work front, Pankaj Tripathi was last seen in 'Sherdil: The Pilibhit Saga'. He will next be seen in 'OMG 2', co-starring Akshay Kumar.
