Veteran singer Pankaj Udhas passed away at the age of 73. The news of ‘Chithi aayi hai’ singer’s demise was confirmed by his daughter Nayaab Udhas in an official statement. The singer was suffering with prolonged illness and breathed his last on February 26.
Family's statement
The family shared an official statement on social media. The statement read, “With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February 2024 due to a prolonged illness.”
The singer is survived by his wife Farida Udhas and two daughters: Nayaab and Reva.

In a career panning across decades, the singer has given several melodious ghazals and songs. Udhas started his career in 80s but rose to fame with ‘Chitthi aayi hai’ in 1986. He then went on to singer several super hit songs like ‘Chandi Jaisa Rang’, ‘Chhupana bhi nahi aata’, ‘Jeeyein to Jeeyein Kaise’ and many more.
Awards and accolades
Pankaj Udhas was awarded Padmashree in 2006. Besides, the legend had many prestigious awards to his credit including Filmfare award for Best Male Playback singer, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
