Filmmaker Pradeep Sarkar, who helmed movies like ‘Parineeta’, ‘Laga Chunari Mein Daag’, ‘Mardaani’ and ‘Helicopter Eela’, passed away at 3.30 am on March 24. According to Times of India, he was on dialysis and his potassium levels had dropped drastically. His last rites will be held at a crematorium in Santacruz at 4 pm today.
Messages of condolences have been pouring in on social media ever since the news of his demise was shared. Celebrities like Vidya Balan, Rani Mukerji, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Dia Mirza, Sakshi Tanwar, Rhea Chakraborty Divyanka Tripathi, and others arrived at the crematorium for the funeral.
His first debut movie as a director was ‘Parineeta’ (2005) for which he won Filmfare Best Art Direction, the Zee Cine Award for Most Promising Director, the National Film Award, and the Indira Gandhi Award for Best First Film of a Director.
His next three feature films were ‘Laaga Chunari Mein Daag’, ‘Lafangey Parindey’, and ‘Mardaani’ which were all produced by Yashraj Films. His last film, ‘Eela’, starring Kajol, was released in October 2018.
