Days after reports of Nitesh Tiwari's ‘Ramayana’ going on floors surfaced, a video of the Grand Ayodhya set has gone viral on social media. Recently, actor Akruti Singh took to her Instagram stories and shared a video from the film’s set which has been constructed in Mumbai. The video featured several glimpses of huge pillars and massive palace-like structures. In the caption of the video, Akruti wrote, ‘Ramayana day 1’. However, the video was deleted later.
Reports from April 2 revealed that Nitesh Tiwari conducted a puja on the sets before commencing shooting for the film with secondary actors. Ranbir Kapoor, set to portray Lord Ram, is expected to join the shoot soon.
Despite Nitesh Tiwari not officially announcing ‘Ramayana’ yet, the film has been a topic of discussion for some time. Ranbir Kapoor is set to play the role of Ram, with Sai Pallavi cast as Sita. Initially, Alia Bhatt was considered for the role of Sita, but she had to withdraw due to scheduling conflicts.
‘KGF’ star Yash is reportedly being considered to play Ravana, while Sunny Deol is said to have been finalized for the role of Hanuman. Bobby Deol and Vijay Sethupathi are also reportedly in talks for the roles of Kumbhakarna and Vibhishana, respectively. Arun Govil, known for portraying Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayana,’ is set to play King Dashrath. Lara Dutta will be seen as Kaikeyi in the movie.
In February this year, it was reported that Ranbir Kapoor would undergo voice and diction training for the film. A source mentioned by India Today stated, ‘Ranbir has a certain baritone and a way of speaking his lines. It is symbolic, and if you have even closed your eyes, you can recognize a dialogue purely based on Ranbir’s voice. In ‘Ramayana,’ Nitesh wants to make sure Ranbir sounds different from the characters he’s played in the past. Being a versatile actor, Ranbir is enjoying this process of trying something new.’
Additionally, it was reported that the director does not want Ranbir to gain extra muscle for the role of Lord Ram. Instead, he wants Ranbir to maintain his lean avatar.
The makers are reportedly planning to release ‘Ramayana’ on Diwali 2025. However, there is no official confirmation regarding this as of now.
