In a big breakthrough, Delhi Police have nabbed the main accused in Actor Rashmika Mandanna’s deepfake video case. The culprit has been arrested from Andhra Pradesh by the police. A deepfake video of Mandanna went viral in November 2023, in which, the face of a British-Indian citizen, Zara Patel was replaced with Rashmika’s face.
The deepfake video of ‘Animal’ actor had created shockwaves on the internet with the actor herself responding and condemning the act. An FIR was filed under various sections including section 66C (identity theft).
Govt of India took including the IT minister took immediate cognizance of the matter. While Prime Minister Modi raised concerns over misuse of Artificial Intelligence, Union minister of State for IT said the government is coming up with the tighter rules under the IT Act.
Rashmika Mandanna had posted that she was ‘really hurt’ after her deepfake video went viral. Following Rashmika Mandanna’s case, there were many more deepfake videos that emerged, causing concerns among the netizens.
A morphed video of Sachin Tendulkar had recently gone viral where the cricketer was seen promoting a gaming app. An FIR was launched in the matter and the video was taken down as Tendulkar raised the issue on X.
Rashmika Mandanna, who is currently enjoying the success of her film ‘Animal’, will next be seen in ‘Pushpa 2’ as ‘Srivalli’ opposite Allu Arjun.
