Karan Johar and Twinkle Khanna engaged in a fun banter at the launch event of the latter’s book ‘Welcome to Paradise’. Twinkle humorously questioned Karan if his directorial 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani' was based on her marriage.
Karan denied the reports and playfully advised her not to assume that everything revolves around her.
Karan also advised Twinkle not to take his comments too seriously, sparking a lighthearted exchange between the longtime friends.
‘You based Rocky Aur Rani on my marriage, apparently. That’s what everyone is saying. Is that true? How much can you leech off me?’ Twinkle asked.
Karan replied, ‘No, it was just two people from different schools of thought coming together. That doesn’t mean it’s your marriage, Tina. Everything is not about you.’
Twinkle then said that she read it on the news, and claimed that Karan had made these comments in an interview. Karan replied, ‘Don’t believe everything I say.’
Recently, Karan was asked about Twinkle and Akshay serving as the inspiration for ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ in an interview with mid-day.
He said, ‘Maybe subconsciously (I got inspired). They have a tremendous friendship in their marriage. I’ve had dinners with them, meals with them, hung out with them. And there’s a terrific kind of comfort in their camaraderie. He finds her hilarious, she finds him hilarious, for different reasons. So I felt it wasn’t impossible for people who come from two different demographics of society, two stratas, to actually find love. It’s like we put ourselves in boxes. Like when we’re finding a relationship, we put ourselves in places where we’re comfortable. But tomorrow, you can fall in love with someone anywhere.’
‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ made more than Rs 350 crore globally, and was appreciated for its progressive politics and the charming performances by Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh.
