Filmmaker SS Rajamouli, who is currently basking in the success of his latest release 'RRR', starring Jr NTR, Ram Charan, and Alia Bhatt, has announced a sequel of his magnum opus and said that his father-screenwriter Vijayendra Prasad is writing the sequel.
During a screening in Chicago, he was asked if there would be an 'RRR 2', to which Rajamouli replied, 'I would absolutely love to. I can’t reveal many details about it but my father, who has been a screenwriter for all my films including RRR…We discussed a bit about it, and he is working on the story.'
Earlier, during a special screening of the film in New York City, the filmmaker talked about the comparison between 'RRR' and 'Mahabharata'.
Rajamouli said that he always wanted to tell Indian stories with a Hollywood touch as he is highly influenced by films like, 'Gladiator' and 'Braveheart'. Talking about the comparison, he said that what he has managed to do with 'RRR' is ‘minuscule’ of what a 'Mahabharata' adaptation would need.
'But the kind of imagery that I have in my head for the Mahabharata, I think I need more time, I need to learn more film craft to get it on the screen,' said the director.
'RRR' released on March 25 and it is still doing wonders at the box office. The SS Rajamouli directorial has become the third highest-grossing Indian film in Japan, overtaking the box office collections of Aamir Khan's '3 Idiots'. The film also made its entry to the 95th Academy Awards by joining the nomination race in 14 different categories.
