Alia Bhatt starrer 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' was one of the most talked about films of the year. The film was being campaigned for the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) 2022. But, the makers are now aiming big and trying to take the film to the Oscars this year. This Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial was based on Hussain Zaidi’s book 'Mafia Queens of Mumbai'.
As reported by Deadline, the makers have decided to submit the film in all major categories including – Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Screenplay among others for the 95th Academy Awards. Another big film from India, SS Rajamouli's magnum opus 'RRR' is also being submitted in all the major categories after not being selected as India's official entry for Oscars 2023.
'Gangubai Kathiawadi' had its premiere at the 72nd edition of the Berlin International Film Festival and received major applause as well as a standing ovation from the audience.
The film was released in February this year and was commercially successful grossing over ₹200 crore worldwide. The film also stars Ajay Devgn, Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz in pivotal roles.
