Ajay Devgn, Jyotika and R Madhavan starrer 'Shaitaan', directed by Vikas Bahl, was released in theatres this Friday. Defying all expectations at the ticket window, the supernatural horror film collected Rs 14.5 crore on the opening day.
One of the most anticipated films of the year, 'Shaitaan' saw a decent opening at the box office. According to Sacnilk.com, the supernatural thriller earned 14.50 crores on its first day. The film had an overall 25.70% Hindi occupancy on Friday. Eyeing an even bigger weekend, it has sold nearly 195,000 tickets, raking in Rs 4.90 crore on its second day already.
'Shaitaan' is a remake of Gujarati film 'Vash'. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) gave the movie a U/A certificate before to its distribution, recommending a few edits. The trailer suggested that the film centres around dark magic. The Censor Board has requested that the filmmakers include a voiceover with the disclaimer, "The film does not support/endorse black magic."
Presented by Jio Studios, Devgn Films and Panorama Studios, 'Shaitaan' is produced by Ajay Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak.
