'Shershaah to 'Border': Five best Indian Army movies you should watch

The Indian Army is the epitome of valour, glory, dedication, and duty. Several Bollywood movies have been made to remind us of all the sacrifices that our soldiers make to keep the nation safe.

Here is a list of a few movies that are inspired by the Indian Army that left the audience impressed.

Shershaah (2021)

Starring Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani, the film narrates the story of PVC awardee brave Indian soldier Capt. Vikram Batra. He contributed immensely to India’s victory in the 1999 Kargil War. Siddharth’s acting was praised by the audience in this biographical war film.

Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019)

The military action film, written and directed by debutant Aditya Dhar, starred Vicky Kaushal as Major Vihaan Singh Shergill of the Indian Army. He led a covert operation against a group of militants who attacked a base in Uri, Kashmir, in 2016 and killed many soldiers.

Tango Charlie (2005)

The Mani Shankar directorial starred Ajay Devgn, Bobby Deol, Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Tanisha, Nandana Sen, and Sudesh Berry. BSF trooper Tarun and his battalion are sent to Kargil when the war breaks out between India and Pakistan, and riots erupt in North India.

Lakshya (2004)

Directed by Farhan Akhtar, the film revolves around Karan, an aimless man, who joins the Indian Army on a whim but quits soon as he finds the military life challenging and difficult. This leads to a fallout with his girlfriend, and he rejoins the Army to make her proud. The film starred Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta in the lead role.

Border (1997)

The epic war film, written, produced, and directed by J. P. Dutta, is set during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. It is an adaptation of real-life events that took place during the 1971 Battle of Longewala. The film starred Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Sunil Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Sudesh Berry, Puneet Issar, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda. Tabu, Raakhee, Pooja Bhatt, and Sharbani Mukherjee played supporting roles.
