Singer Sona Mohapatra, who is known for expressing her strong opinions on social media, has slammed the ‘gold-digger’ mentality of Indian mainstream popular culture, highlighting the various songs where women keep demanding gifts in form of cars, shoes and clothes from their partner. She also took a dig at Jacqueline Fernandez in her tweet.
Sona wrote, ‘Dear #India , mainstream #popculture is constantly telling us that women can be won over with bags, shoes & BS like such, are meant to be objectified or then just be playful, chulbuli, & pretty..the #jacquelinefernandez ‘s get brand endorsements for being such mascots? #LetsTalk.’
For the unversed, Jacqueline had featured in the song ‘Chittiyan Kalaiyaan’, where she demands to be taken shopping, and for a film among other things.
The video posted by Sona also featured clips from other Punjabi songs where girls demand trips to malls so that they can buy expensive items. At the end of the video, a girl is seen proving her cooking skills, much to the delight of her partner.
Sona Mohapatra has gone against top stars like Salman Khan and Farhan Akhtar. She has faced innumerable death threats and attacks for her comments, but she still holds her ground against the trolls.
