Actor Sonam Kapoor, who welcomed her son Vayu in 2022, addressed the major misconception about working mothers and highlighted the common experience of 'mom guilt’ in a recent interview.
Speaking with India Today, Sonam said, ‘The biggest conception about working moms is that people think we don’t care about our kids and that we care more about our work. It’s not true. We care about our children enough to want to work.’
She further continued about the issue of mom guilt and said, ‘One can never be prepared for motherhood. Whether you’re a stay-at-home mother or a working mother, everyone goes through mom guilt. Whether you’re doing a load of laundry or you’re cooking in the kitchen or you’re doing an interview with someone, there will always be guilt.’
Sonam Kapoor also talked about the one positive change that motherhood brought in her life. She said, ‘The positive change that’s come about in my life with motherhood is that I feel more myself now. I was pushed to a point where I had to accept myself because my whole body changed, my mental makeup changed and I was like if I don’t accept myself now for what I am, who I am and how my body has changed, it’s never going to happen. This is the time I need to understand otherwise I’m going to go down a dark hole. So, I just had to learn to be okay with who I am and where I am in my life.’
Earlier this year, Sonam revealed that it took her more than a year to 'feel like myself again' post giving birth to her son. On Instagram, she shared, ‘It’s taken me 16 months to feel like myself again. Slowly steadily without any crash diets and crazy workouts just consistent self care and baby care. I’m not there yet but almost where I want to be.. still very very grateful for my body and how incredible it has been.’
