Sonu Nigam washed veteran singer Asha Bhosle's feet during the launch of her biography as a mark of respect. Asha's biography, titled 'Swarswamini Asha', was launched on Friday, June 28, in a star-studded ceremony, which also saw Jackie Shroff and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in attendance. Her brother, Hridaynath Mangeshkar, was also present at the ceremony.
In a video shared by news agency ANI on X (formerly known as Twitter), Sonu is seen sitting near Asha's feet; he then proceeds to kiss them before washing them. The singer then wiped Asha's feet dry and bowed to her before leaving the stage. People around him helped with the water, a thali, and a towel. The video has now captured netizens' hearts.
During the event, Sonu wore a yellow kurta and white pyjamas, while Bhosle opted for an elegant white saree. Sonu also delivered a speech, praising Asha and her late sister Lata Mangeshkar for their unparalleled contributions to Indian music.
Internet users were mighty impressed by Sonu Nigam's heartwarming gesture and lauded them for his kind act. "Heartwarming. So proud of you, Sonu Nigam. Really great," wrote a person. "Hats off to Sonu Nigam! What a wholesome moment. Two living legends. I wish Lata Ji was alive and on this stage," read a tweet. “This is beautiful. So quintessentially Indian. Such are the things that make us proud to be Indians," mentioned another user.
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat spoke about the Mangeshkar family's dedication to both music and patriotism, as per ANI. He emphasised the significance of music's function beyond amusement, highlighting how, according to the research, it can advance society. Jackie Shroff paid his respects to Asha by touching her feet and presented her with a flower pot. During the event, Asha reminisced about her association with VD Savarkar.
