Janhvi Kapoor is gearing up for the release of ‘Mr and Mrs Mahi’. The actor, however, has been gaining attention on social media for confessing her interest in Indian history. In a recent interview, the actor expressed her desire to witness a debate between Mahatma Gandhi and BR Ambedkar. Her now-viral statement has intrigued netizens who are happy to witness a mainstream actor take up interest in social and political issues.
In a conversation with Lallantop, Janhvi Kapoor opened up about her interest in history. She said, “I have always been interested in history.” The actor was asked if given a chance which era of history she would like to visit. To this she replied, “You want me to tell you the truth? But you cannot further question me after I answer you this because I don’t know how my views will get translated to the audience, but I think it will be very interesting to watch a debate between Ambedkar and Gandhi. Just a debate between what they stand for and how their views kept changing over a topic and how they kept influencing people. They have both helped our society at a great extent. So I think it will be very interesting discourse.”
The actor went on to express her take on Gandhi and Ambedkar’s views. She said, “Ambedkar’s view [in terms of caste] was very stern since the beginning while Gandhi’s kept evolving over time.”
Janhvi acknowledged the deep roots of casteism and shared that caste was never discussed at her school or her house.“I think to learn about it from a third person’s point of view vs living that life, there’s a big difference between the two,” she said.
Social media and fans were pleasantly surprised and impressed to see Janhvi’s political awareness and insightful views on history and the issue of caste.
Meanwhile on the professional front, Janhvi Kapoor has some of the most interesting projects lined up. Her ‘Mr and Mrs Mahi’ and ‘Ulajh’ are all set to release. Besides, she is working on ‘Devara’ with Jr NTR and she also has an untitled project opposite Ram Charan in the pipeline.
