Elon Musk’s micro-blogging site Twitter has removed legacy verified blue ticks from the accounts of many prominent personalities in India, these include legendary actors Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. The celebrities have lost the blue ticks that helped distinguish them from impostors on the platform as they don’t pay a monthly subscription fee.

Other celebrities whose blue ticks were removed include Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Akshay Kumar, Kajol, Madhuri Dixit, Anushka Sharma, and Anil Kapoor, among others. For the unversed, verified blue checkmarks on Twitter costs USD 8 a month through the web and USD 11 a month through an in-app payment on iOS and Android. In India, the subscription costs Rs 900 per month via iPhones and Android smartphones. On the Twitter website, the cost is Rs 650 per month.
Earlier, Twitter had announced that it will remove the verified check-mark status of accounts unless they have subscribed to Twitter Blue or the business-focused Twitter Verified Organizations plan.

Twitter tweeted, ‘On April 1st, we will begin winding down our legacy verified program and removing legacy verified checkmarks. To keep your blue checkmark on Twitter, individuals can sign up for Twitter Blue.’
