Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s '12th Fail' tops IMDb ratings among Indian films, beats 'Oppenheimer' and 'Barbie'

Director Vidhu Vinod Chopra's '12th Fail' has achieved remarkable success. The biographical drama, starring Vikrant Massey, has captured the audience's admiration and has now earned the distinction of being the highest-rated Indian film on IMDb.

'12th Fail' has secured the top spot on IMDb's list of the top 250 Indian films, boasting an impressive rating of 9.2 out of 10. The other four movies in the top five among all-time Indian films include the 1993 animated film 'Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama,' Mani Ratnam's 'Nayakan,' Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 'Gol Maal,' and actor R Madhavan's directorial debut 'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect.'

With its impressive rating of 9.2, '12th Fail' outshines some of the most significant and acclaimed Hollywood blockbusters of 2023, including 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse' (rated 8.6), Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer' (8.4), 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' (7.9), Martin Scorsese's 'Killers of the Flower Moon' (7.8), 'John Wick: Chapter 4' (7.7), and Gret Gerwig's 'Barbie' (6.9), featuring Margot Robbie.

'12th Fail,' based on a book by Anurag Pathak and featuring Vikrant Massey and Medha Shankar, tells the story of Manoj Kumar Sharma. He triumphed over dire poverty to achieve the rank of an Indian Police Service officer. The film sheds light on his inspiring journey and emphasizes the pivotal role played by his wife, IRS officer Shraddha Joshi, in his remarkable ascent.

'12th Fail' has exceeded expectations by grossing Rs 67 crores worldwide, establishing itself as an unexpected hit of the year. Following its release on Disney Plus Hotstar, the film has continued to receive praise and affection from the audience.
