Vijay Devarakonda, who is busy promoting his forthcoming film ‘Liger’, co-starring Ananya Pandey, talked about the cancel culture and boycott trend in Bollywood.
Recently, two big-ticket movies, ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ and ‘Raksha Bandhan’, faced boycott calls and met a tragic fate at the box office.
In an exclusive interview with India Today, the actor said, ‘There are 200-300 actors working on a film and all of us have staff members, so a film gives employment to many people and is a source of livelihood for many. When Aamir Khan Sir makes a Laal Singh Chaddha, it is his name that features prominently in the film, but there are 2000-3000 families that are being provided for. You are affecting thousands of families’.
Talking in reference to ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, he said, ‘Aamir Sir is someone who pulls the crowd to the theatres. I am not sure why this boycott call is happening, but for whatever misunderstanding, this is happening, please realize you are not affecting Aamir Khan alone but the economy. It is a much bigger picture’.
Vijay Devarakonda is awaiting the release of 'Liger', his Bollywood debut, which is set to release on August 25.
