Weekend special! The ‘Harry Potter’ cast: Then vs Now

Daniel Radcliffe, who is best known for essaying the role of Harry Potter, in the ‘Harry Potter’ film series, is celebrating his 33rd birthday today. Not just Daniel, but the entire cast of ‘Harry Potter’ won the hearts of the audience, let us take a look at how the characters have aged over the years and where are they now. 

Daniel Radcliffe 

Daniel Jacob Radcliffe was born in London. He made his acting debut at the age of 10 with the BBC One television film ‘David Copperfield’ in 1999. He was spotted by producer David Heyman and writer Steve Kloves in a theatre in London in the summer of 2000 and cast in the ‘Harry Potter’ series. Post that, Daniel starred in ‘The Woman in Black’ (2012), the drama ‘Kill Your Darlings’ (2013), and the rom-com ‘What If’ (2013). He also reunited with the rest of his cast in HBO's 20th-anniversary ‘Return to Hogwarts’ reunion special. Daniel Radcliffe was last seen in ‘The Lost City’ (2022). 

Emma Watson 

How can one forget the ever-strong and beautiful Hermoine Granger aka Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson from ‘Harry Potter’ series. Emma essays the role of Harry Potter's best friend and a sharp student who always has the back of her friends.  

‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone’ was Emma Watson's first acting credit. In between filming the series, Emma appeared in ‘Ballet Shoes’ (2007) and voiced a character in ‘The Tale of Despereaux’ (2008). At the age of fifteen, Watson became the youngest person to appear on the cover of Teen Vogue magazine. During the Harry Potter reunion special titled 'Return to Hogwarts', Watson recalled that she ‘fell in love’ with her co-star Tom Felton. However, the duo were not romantically involved.

Rupert Grint 

Rupert Alexander Lloyd Grint essays the role of Ron Weasley, Harry's best friend at Hogwarts. He was born in Harlow, Essex, England. For the unversed, Grint purchased a quad bike with his 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone' (2001) earnings. Besides Harry Potter franchise, Rupert was seen in films like 'Into the White' (2012), 'Charlie Countryman' (2013), 'CBGB' (2013), and 'Moonwalkers' (2015).  

Rupert made his theatre debut with the West End play ‘Mojo’ in 2013 following which he had a leading role in the 2014 Broadway play ‘It's Only a Play’. He is currently seen in critically acclaimed series, 'Servant'.   

Tom Felton 

Tom Andrew Felton essays the role of an evil wizard in the famous ‘Harry Potter’ series. In an interview with a publication, Felton revealed that his negative character didn't gave him much popularity among his friends and school mates. 

Felton featured in a few movies, including ‘Anna and the King’ (1999) before starring as Malfoy. 

After completing the ‘Harry Potter’ series, Felton featured as a villain in ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ (2011). He found success on TV as well as in films. Recently, he appeared in ‘Save the Cinema’ (2022).

Matthew Lewis 

Matthew David Lewis essayed the role of Neville Longbottom in the ‘Harry potter’ series. After playing the clumsy Neville Longbottom, Lewis has come a long way. He featured in films like ‘Me Before You’ (2016) and ‘Terminal’ (2018) and TV shows including BBC One's ‘The Syndicate’ and ‘Ripper Street’, and ITV's ‘Girlfriends.’ He became a heartthrob after portraying the lead love interest in the series ‘All Creatures Great and Small’.  

James and Oliver Phelps 

James Andrew Eric and Oliver Martyn John Phelps play the troublesome elder brothers of Ron Weasley in the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise. ‘Harry Potter and Sorcerer's Stone’ was both actors' first film.  

After the ‘Harry Potter’ series, the twins continued to act in films. The brothers also have a podcast called ‘Normal Not Normal’ (previously known as ‘Double Trouble’). 

The brothers appeared in 2021’s 'Last Night in Soho'. The twins will now be seen hosting a travel and magic show titled, ‘Fantastic Friends’.
