From musical legends to popular actors, we have lost many eminent celebrities this year. As we bid adieu to this year, let us remember some of the legends who left us.
Robbie Coltrane (March 30, 1950 – October 14, 2022)
Scottish star Robbie Coltrane died aged 72 following multiple organ failure. He was best known for portraying the role of Rubeus Hagrid in the ‘Harry Potter’ films, and Valentin Zukovsky, a Russian crime boss, in the ‘James Bond’ thrillers ‘GoldenEye’ and ‘The World Is Not Enough’.
Aaron Carter (December 7, 1987 – November 5, 2022)
Singer-actor Aaron Carter, who briefly became a teenage sensation in the early 2000s, was found dead in the bathtub of his home in Southern California. He was 34. Carter, who was known for the hit song, ‘I want Candy’, began performing at age seven and released his self-titled debut album in 1997 at age nine, selling a million copies worldwide.
Kirstie Alley (January 12, 1951 – December 5, 2022)
Kirstie Alley, the star of ‘Cheers’ and ‘Drop Dead Gorgeous’, died after a brief battle with colon cancer. She was 71. Alley won an Emmy award and a Golden Globe for her role as bar manager Rebecca Howe on the popular TV series ‘Cheers’. She also appeared in the ‘Look Who's Talking’ film franchise and the TV sitcom ‘Veronica's Closet’.
Angela Lansbury (October 16, 1925- October 11, 2022)
Angela Lansbury, best known for playing Jessica Fletcher in the TV series ‘Murder, She Wrote’, died on October 11, aged 96. She bagged five Tony Awards for her stage performances between 1966 and 2009, and a special Tony for lifetime achievement in 2022.
She also earned Academy Award nominations for two of her first three film roles, ‘Gaslight’ (1945) and ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’ (1946).
Olivia Newton-John (September 26, 1948 - August 8, 2022)
Olivia Newton-John was one of the biggest pop stars of the '70s and she charmed generations of viewers in the blockbuster movie ‘Grease’. The Australian singer passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California on August 8. She was 73.
Sidney Poitier (February 20, 1927 – January 6, 2022)
Sidney Poitier, the Bahamian-American Hollywood star, known for films like ‘In the Heat of the Night’, ‘Blackboard Jungle’ and ‘Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner’, died on January 6 at the age of 94. He was the first Black winner of the best actor Oscar for his role in Lilies of the Field, and he inspired a generation during the civil rights movement.
Bob Saget (May 17, 1956 – January 9, 2022)
Bob Saget, comedian and actor, who was best known for playing Danny Tanner on the sitcom ‘Full House,’ died on January 10. He was 65. Saget was found dead in a hotel room at the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes, according to a statement from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
