‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’: Here’s what you need to know before you watch the film

The sequel of ‘Avatar’ has released in cinemas after 13 years and the audience is all set to return to Pandora. James Cameron’s 2009 film had smashed box office records and earned $2.92 billion against a $237 million budget. Now, as its sequel hits the theatres, here are some things you would like to know.

Who is in the cast?
The sequel will center around the original characters Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington, and Neytiri, played by Zoe Saldaña, as they set out on new adventure as parents. Besides them, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang will also reprise their roles as Kiri and Colonel Quaritch, respectively.
Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Michelle Yeoh and Edie Falco have also joined the cast.Kate Winslet will play the Na'vi character Ronal.

What is ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ about?
The film will revolve around Jake and Neytiri's family and it will show how they are doing everything to keep each other safe and the tragedies they endure.
It Will Take Place Underwater
Cameron made the actors shoot the motion capture sequences in a giant water tank to capture the underwater world as realistically as possible.
‘My colleagues within the production really lobbied heavily for us to do it 'dry for wet,' hanging people on wires. ... I even let them run a test, where we captured dry for wet, and then we captured in water, a crude level of our in-water capture. And it wasn't even close,’ he told EW.
Most of the cast members are now certified as scuba divers, and all of them worked with professionals to learn to free dive and hold their breath for minutes at a time.

Who is the director?
James Cameron, best known for his work on the first ‘Avatar’ film and ‘Titanic’, returns as the director of the film. He is also producing it alongside Jon Landau. The screenplay is written by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver based on a story by Cameron, Jaffa, Silver, Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno.

How long is ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel's runtime is estimated to be three hours and 10 minutes, about 29 minutes longer than the original film.
Cameron is planning to tell the entire ‘Avatar’ saga over the course of five films. The third installment of the film is likely to release in 2024, and the two subsequent films are set to release in 2026 and 2028, respectively.
